BeBlue Preview - Northern Illinois

Updated: Feb 4

Drake finishes their non-conference schedule at Northern Illinois.

The Scoop on Northern Illinois:

Drake (7-4) concludes their three-game road stand at Northern Illinois on December 29. The Huskies enter their final non-conference game with a 4-6 record and are coming off an 80-61 loss to Southern Illinois in the championship game of the Compass Challenge last Friday. NIU has lost three of its last four games, with their last win coming against Eastern Illinois on December 19. Drake will be the third MVC team the Huskies will have faced, falling to SIU and at Illinois State on November 20. Northern Illinois and Drake have two common opponents, both having faced Purdue and South Dakota, and fell in each matchup. The Huskies were selected to finish third in the MAC Preseason Poll.

Redshirt senior Courtney Woods paces the Huskies averaging 18.4 PPG (3rd MAC). Last week, Woods became NIU's career leader in three-pointers made. The Preseason All-MAC West Division Team selection has connected on 281 career three-point field goals.

Sunday will mark the seventh all-time meeting between Drake and Northern Illinois. The Bulldogs lead the series 5-1.

Tip-off from DeKalb is at 2:00 P.M. Sunday's broadcast will air on 1350 ESPN and on the Drake Learfield IMG College Sports Network on TuneIn.

Last Time Out:

Drake faced in-state rival, Iowa, last Saturday in Iowa City. Redshirt senior Sara Rhine led the way with 17 points, while fellow senior Becca Hittner added 16 points.
